July 2016

Mufti Day – held in the middle of the year for the first time. The game played was a 4 person dropout ambrose, (of course, not implying the players were dropouts), and the winners on a count back with a score of 62 and a half’ish’, were Dr. Helena, Lisa Swan, Lorraine George & Jill Fraser. The runners up Coral Walker, Pat Clarke, Mon Capitan & Heather Burrett. As the name implies, it is a dress up day, and the theme was ‘anything but golf gear’, – what can be said, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves! The bridal party were the costume winners on the day – what an attractive group!

The heavens opened this month on our Day of Golf consequently resulting in a much reduced field;  however, probably channeling that great Eric Clapton song – ‘Let it Rain’, 51 brave women battled the elements for the 2016 Everglades Salver, Bowl & Longmarkers Cup. Yvonne Boardman from Toukley won the Salver with a great score of 83 gross (she plays off 1!), our own Marg Murray took home the Bowl with a score of 99 gross, and Dee Barham from Breakers won the Longmarkers Cup with a stableford score of 36. Quite a few stayed for the presentation of the trophies, which was terrific.

The rain persisted two days later, therefore the July medal was postponed to the following week, but still 28 women donned the wet weather gear and swung the clubs for 18 holes (or less) – it is an outdoor sport!
With the Medal round finally played, albeit a reduced field of 64, the Division1 winner was Trish Melnik with a score of 72, as was the winner of Division 2 Judy Shanks. Also with 72, Lynette Magill for Division 3. Goodonya girls.

Again,…in the rain and a small field of 33, Thursday 21st the 3BBB par was also a qualifying round for the Gwen Thompson Shield and the team this year playing for the shield at Wyong in September will be Trish Melnik, Sylvia Saunders & Caro Roope – let’s hope the Shield ends up in the trophy cabinet at Everglades.
We’re now at the pointy end of the 2B Knockout with Lynette Magill & Cathy Byrne playing Marg Hockley & Val Stanford – good golfing to all.
Also a reminder of the CCWGA District Charity Day @ Everglades on August 22nd. You will have to qualify on July 28 to play this event.
The Women’s Country Meeting this year put on by Golf NSW is from 5th to the 8th September. Monday 5th Sept at Shelly Beach GC, Tuesday 6th Sept at Wyong GC, and Thursday 8th Sept at Magenta Shores. It will cost $50 each game. Go to the Golf NSW website for details of this event. http://www.golfnsw.org/golfbox#/competition/537483/info
That’s it for another month, and if you’re off travelling for a time, don’t forget,…Everglades is your spiritual home.

JUNE 2016

‘Tempus fugit’ – or, for those of us who don’t speak Latin … Time flies! Where did the first half of 2016 get to?

June began with the Bendigo Bank monthly medal, also incorporating the 4th round of the Golf NSW medal and the shootout, so a lot to play for each month – no pressure!
Division 1 winner was Karen Myles, for Division 2 Maureen Muncey and Rhonda Barron came up trumps for Division 3. Well played to these women.

Pennants on Monday 6th was a complete washout, thanks to the atrocious ‘east coast low’ that hit NSW that weekend. We have one more round to play, but, unfortunately despite the tremendous enthusiasm and effort by all our players no trophies for Everglades this year.

Halfway through the month we played a par and 2ball vs par game which was also a qualifier for the GOLF NSW Fourball Championship, terrific play by Kaye Mckay and Judy Andrews will see them representing Everglades in the final, played at Shelly Beach in October. The individual division winners on the day were – Kaye McKay, Mon Capitan and Cathy Byrne.

I think the following will resonate with all of our members, and thank you to Ann Woods for sending it on:-
A Group of Girlfriends

A group of girlfriends, all age 40, discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns.
10 years later, at age 50, the friends once again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because the food was good and the wine selection was excellent.
10 years later, at age 60, the friends again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because they could dine in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.
10 years later, at age 70, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had an elevator.
10 years later, at 80 years of age, the friends again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because they had never been there before.

Enjoy your friends and your golf.

The Pennant teams for this year have now been decided, with the first matches to be played on April 4.  The CCWGA has embarked on a new format in the hope of making it a more level playing field, (or should that be fairway?) There are two teams, each with a combined handicap of no less than 130, so every grade is included. Good luck and good golf to all our players – bring it home girls!

Invitation/Open Day is on Tuesday 12th April so do invite your golfing friends from other clubs to join us on the day.

Enjoy your friends, and your golf…. always.

Vets Closing Day – Tuesday 27 October 2015

It was a 8am shot gun with players arriving from 7am and there were 76 starters which was a great roll up considering the grey showery weather conditions. The event was a Single Stableford with prizes OTF and in age groups with a 4 person team with 2 scores to count in conjunction. There were 28 prize vouchers presented for great golf scores and 16 prizes for the NTP and wavy drives plus the ‘No Mobile Phone Trivia Quiz’ which proved to be very challenging for all groups. If you weren’t lucky enough on course there was always the raffle which was generously supported with many donations, thank you again to those who so kindly contributed.

Well done to the winners on the day, great scores and some great fun had!

Captain’s V President’s Day – Thursday 9 October

It looked fantastic, you could see red and blue across the course everywhere, all teh players certainly got into the spirit of the day. At the first tee both the Presidents and the Captains carts were decorated in their appropriate colour and it was game on between Wendy and Jan… the Vices were simply there to keep the peace throughout the 18 hole battle.

The prizes were again sponsored by Bendigo Bank which boosted the prize pool considerably and provided a ball for all those who played on the winning side and again thank you Brian for attending presentation and receiving kisses.

Congratulations again went to the Captains side for the fourth year in a row with the final overall score – Presidents 878 to the Captains 892, only fourteen shots between them! Captain’s V President’s Day – Thursday 9 October

The Shoot-Out Final – Tuesday 22 September

There were ten eager competitors awaiting hit off at the 1st tee at 9.15am. Caro Roope was at the helm as referee due to the fact that Capt. Wendy White was one of the ten players competing. All players listened to the referee’s instructions attentively and Caro was so very professional in her delivery you would have been forgiven for thinking you were on the 1st hole at Augusta. President Jan and Secretary Lesley Wells were assisting on the day by carry an esky filled with bottles of champagne and glasses, of cause this is the most important job of the day! Players dropped out one by one and received their full, numbered champagne glass until there were only two, Karen Myles and Rhonda Baron hitting off on the 9th hole. The final play came down to a chip off with Rhonda Baron being the victor to take out the Shoot out, Rhonda felt she had not played her best golf but chipped and putted her way to success!

Congratulations to all the players and well played to Rhonda Baron.Shoot out winner Rhonda Baron with Runner up Karen MylesShootout Final - Winner Rhonda Baron
